Rumor: Apple COO Tim Cook moving to GM?

I just happened upon article detailing the rumor floating around that Apple Computer's COO, Tim Cook is in the running for the top job at GM. Silicon Alley Insider reports that, "Spencer Stuart has identified [Tim] as the next CEO of GM."

I've noted in the past, just yesterday in fact, about the need for visionary leadership and Mr. Cook would be a change for the automobile industry.

So, if true, I am tending to think that this would be a good thing.

HOWEVER, CNN reports that "Almost from the time he showed up at Apple, Cook knew he had to pull the company out of manufacturing. He closed factories and warehouses around the world and instead established relationships with contract manufacturers."

If this past action would foreshadow future events at GM, I would have reason to pause.

Apart from other considerations, cars and computers are wildly different beasts.
